SPOILERS I am sooooo depressed and feel betrayed by the author. I loved the first two books in this trilogy and waited forever to read this last book. The release date kept being moved further back. While I did not like it, I understood that these things happen. Today I found out that this book was released, bought it and read it right way. I think it took about an hour to read it. Again, I had no problem with it being short.

However the ending is terrible and the rest of the book is depressing too. I thought for sure that Adelaide, the h, would get her HEA. The readers were with the Lauren Hammond and Adelaide through 3 books and she did have some good times including with Elijah, her husband & her daughter. However, it is not to be. Apparently Adelaide who had a terrible life which includes an abusive father and being locked up in an mental institution does not receive a break. HERE IT COMES.... Elijah kills himself when Adelaide is in a coma, abandoning their daughter. (I do not think that is keeping with his personality.) Adelaide miscarries her second baby during the accident that put her in a coma. Adelaide is sent back to Oak Hills. Apparently Damien, who I loved, was made up! Her daughter visits her at Oak Hill as an adult. Then Adelaide dies after being at Oak Hill 20 years!!!! I am so sorry I read this book. I wish I read a spoiler that gave the ending as I would have skipped it and saved myself some heartburn.

I have my own ending to the trilogy. Damien was real and like Adelaide hallucinations, died protecting her from her abuse father. Elijah, who loves Adelaide ,does not kill himself. Rather he helps heal her. She was only send back to Oak Hill because of her miscarriage. She is released and with therapy lives a healthy happy life with Elijah and her daughter. Instead of growing up with relatives, their daughter growns and thrives with her parents. Adelaide and Elijah die when they are very old and within a short time of each other. (Think the notebook.) There. Much better.....

Beautiful Nightmares The Asylum Trilogy Book 3 edition by Lauren Hammond Romance eBooks Reviews

I am just sooooo depressed. I waited this book for so long and just kept pushing back the release date on my reading calendar…and I was disappointed. I am not saying that it is not a good read…it is, especially if you liked the other two (I LOVED the other two) but with this one…I wanted more. I wanted it to end MY WAY. I wanted closure…in a happy way. I craved for them to be together so the ending is ironic. I’m just depressed.

You need to read this series in order…this is not a stand-alone and you will be totally lost. I was totally lost because it was so long between books that I had to find my groove again. Addy is back in the mental institution…you are again in there with her. You don’t know what is real and what is being imagined. You still see Danny and Elijah doesn’t exist!! WTF!!!

The book goes to “Before” and “After” again. You get to learn about the marriage which I LOVED!! You get to learn about how Elijah felt about having Willow. I just wish it kept going in that direction.

This book is about someone who has a HORRIBLE life with brief, beautiful, moments in between.

"After your heart breaks once, it never heals quite right. There are always cracks, or chipped pieces. And depending on what kind of person you are and what kind personal strength you have, sometimes after your heart breaks it can feel like you’ve never had a heart at all."

I love Addy and I am so sorry for the life that she had. I guess Lauren did her job…I’m going to go cry some more.
Beautiful Nightmares was a trip. Picking up in 1960, we find Adelaide still in Oakhill. The “before” chapters are now what happened from where White Walls ended and then where Insanity left off. Confusing? Yes. But I think the time jumping works to show how fractured Adelaide’s memories are. She remembers, only to forget again, but remembers that she forgot. I was hooked from the first chapter where there’s another twist, and then I read it all straight through.

I really can’t say anything about Beautiful Nightmares without spoiling it. There’s plenty of twists, and WTF the moments. It was also harder to tell at times what was a real memory and what was one of Adelaide’s nightmares. She goes through a lot, and I can’t say that she makes it to her happily ever after. The ending isn’t really sad, but definitely not happy. It’s more bittersweet than anything, and I think that’s fitting for this mindscrew of a story.
I purchased this book, because I was assigned the letter 'I' for a monthly book club challenge. I searched , and this was the first book I came across that looked interesting. I was definitely not disappointed...and it was free, so double score. There are two other books in the series, and for $.99 each, I got all three at the same time, which I was really glad about when I got to the cliffhanger at the end of Insanity.

This series is a dark, sad read. It is also a little confusing since it flips between the 'Before' and 'After' of an event in the heroine's life, and the event changes in the subsequent books. Also, the editing is not very good. However, if you are like me and can overlook editing for a good story, I would recommend this series for anyone who enjoys darker, more suspenseful stories. Please understand that this is not one of those stories that wraps everything up neatly, though. I still had some questions at the end, but it also felt true to the story that I didn't get all of the answers and that I was confused about some things. Also, although there is a love story involved, be aware that this is probably more a suspense/drama than romance genre. This is NOT a light, easy, happily ever after story; just know that going in. You also have to read all three books, and read them in order.

I am giving the first book a 3, although I'd have given it a 4 if the editing were better.
I am giving the 2nd and 3rd books 3s for both the story and editing.
