First of all as a supplemental book to the "Leopard King" series I have to say this one has met my expectations and then some. Unlike the first of the intermediary books "Kill Zombies" this book wasn't overbalanced, all over the place or swamping you up with technology that most of us can barely think of.Instead "The Bloody Ripper" takes place in a setting that most of us are slightly familiar with while we have all heard of the notorious actual Jack the Ripper. Being able to relate something familiar with the fantastical world that T.A. Uner seems to be a master of writing helps to keep the eye captured while luring the reader on.
The book was a bit heavy for an intermediary book but to me this just added more to the story. Even though there were repetitive spots I didn't feel overwhelmed like I did with "Kill Zombies" while at the same time feeling this book did a greater job of introducing us to the evil Sect, their cruel methods and the ever-continuing struggles even the remaining vampires.
Not trying to spoil the book it was a masterful twist that closed out this story while leaving a tantalizing peek of what may come in the next book or two while also leaving out enough that it doesn't interfere with the other books. And still it doesn't even imply how this series will end.
It is my honest opinion that "Kill Zombies" should be read first to try to introduce you to a more sci-fi world with heavy technological advances while introducing the concept of the Sect to the reader. But at the same time with the exception of a brief mention or two the intermediary books may also be read out of order to the choice of the reader with this being a lighter read in some cases.

The Bloody Ripper Leopard King Saga Tome 12 TA Uner 9781495289040 Books Reviews
T.A. Uner has an amazing imagination. “The Bloody Ripper” is a twist on the Jack the Ripper tale with vampires, clones, and time travel thrown in. Despite all of this, the story was not my cup of tea and not my favorite T.A. Uner novel.
I had high hopes of enjoying this book like the other books in the Leopard Vanguard series but found “The Bloody Ripper” confusing and boring for half of the book. It took me multiple times of starting and restarting this read. I had a hard time following who was who and at one point I didn’t even care, I just wanted to get to the end of the book.
In my opinion the transitions between characters and scenes were not smooth. In these instances an abundance of descriptions of people and events were explained making both the scene and my mind feel chaotic.
In this series I didn’t connect to a character. Even though I gave a less than enthusiastic review, I did love the ending and look forward in seeing the characters in the future.

I was a little concerned about reading this book because of the Bloody Ripper’s ritualistic behavior in The Leopard Stratagem. I am so glad that this book concentrated on the events leading up to his transformation. It is sad with what happens with Jack especially with his life truly beginning. He just became a doctor, getting married, and then shortly after finds out they will be having a baby.
There are murders happening in London and the Sect is working on their foothold in late 1880’s London, and both are related. I really like the twist that was taken on the Jack the Ripper murders. I won’t give away any spoilers, however I will say that it was genius with what the author did.
When Jack’s brother, Robert disappears, he feels he needs to do something to find him. He knows more is going on and is determined to find his brother and the one responsible for the prostitute murders and why.
As the story progresses, it takes you on a few twists and turns to before finally revealing how the Bloody Ripper was created. I think this is a character that I felt truly sorry for. He was literally torn apart and thrown back together with no memory of who he is. He has voices fighting over who has control of him and slowly causing him to go insane.
The Bloody Ripper is a mash up of a few genres. You get a taste of the paranormal, some steampunk, toss in some sci-fi bits and then a bit of historical fiction for good measure. Some of that I think worked, and some of it not.
I really liked the opening to this, I liked the concept of a ghostly Vampire driven train pulling into Victorian London, crossing time boundaries and coming with a dark purpose. To harvest the life source of everyday Victorian citizens. Vampires with a thirst for not only blood but lives.
Set in 1888 mostly, around the exact time that Jack the Ripper was on his killing spree, the book blends a few story lines that all come together to meet at the end. What does work well is the whole dark vampire wandering the streets of Victorian London thing, even them taking people to harvest their life force is great. The time portal with the train works as does the action aboard the train.
We meet Vampiress (yes, that's her name), a power hungry Vampire who will stop at nothing and has no mercy. I liked her as a character and would be keen to follow her in another book, I think she was a good addition to the book and one of the more stand-out characters in it.
BUT I did not get the sci-fi futurised planetary, galactic element, in my opinion the book would be better without that. The end of the book contains a huge portion of this and it fell a bit flat for me.
As the book is part of a series, The Leopard King Saga I suspect the sci-fi and futuristic element ties in with that. I just wish it didn't, for this book at least. It's not long, only 199 pages but highly readable. There was a lot to like about it.
Would I go on to read anymore of this series? I am unsure, if it has more of the sci-fi element then no, as it's not my thing. But more of the Victorian London, Jack the Ripper, time portal Vampire train business? Yes please.
