This felt like an 80's Harlequin with insta-love and a plot with more more holes than a sieve.

Ostensibly, the book is supposed to center on who is raiding the corporate coffers. Kate is brought in as a financial detective to solve this dilemma. Apparently, the transfers via WESTERN UNION (OMG) were too tricky for the billionaire to figure out himself. Kate makes false accusations, but ultimately solves the case by reading Tupperware. I wish I was joking about this.

To top the silliness off, Kate is supposed to be under cover, as opposed to under the covers. The undercover behavior consists of the billionaire taking the day off the minute she arrives and wheeling out her suitcase from his office, sending her flowers and lunch to her office, wandering around New Orleans together, partying with the boss's sister in public, and HAVING SEX IN HIS OFFICE during the work day. These guys make the Scooby Doo gang look like Navy Seals.

For all that Kate is supposed to be a financial guru, little of the book is about the supposed mystery and Kate comes off as immature. The silly drunk girl scenes wore thin as did the "let's make Kate swear" games.

The book flies off in all directions with many superficial subplots. The requisite misunderstanding is tossed in for good measure and never explained. The author includes a rape and death for no useful reason. Kate's ex-husband morphs from just being a jerk to a murderer. There seems to be some confusion on the author's part because early on we are told he remarried a week after their divorce. He delayed the divorce for two years because he didn't want to ruin his social standing. Then we are told he is in jail. I guess they played Folsom Prison Blues as the bride walked down the aisle.

Eli sings the "I'm not good enough" serenade until he mystically remembers something his father told him.

The novel is stuffed with secondary characters whose main purpose is to introduce them for future books in the series. What is the purpose of the Asher incident otherwise? The same goes for Rhys and one of the lamest epilogues ever.

Don't expect any witty dialogue.
"I love girlie stuff.”
“Well, you are a girl, so I guess that fits." Gak!

Skip this book and go eat a beignet. Two stars only because it was free.

This story was not only predictable, but so much so that I could easily predict when to skip smutty pages. Did not finish and will not purchase this author again. In addition, the book needs a grammar fix.
Kirsten Proby is one of my favorite authors, I have read and 're-read all of her With Me In Seattle series. I liked this story, I found all the characters were good, the concept of the story was good, the chemistry between Eli and Kate great, side characters very good. So... why not 4 or 5 stars?? I felt like some of the story was rushed, I don't like how the HEA was completed in just a few pages, I didn't like how we found out who wad embezzling money plus other things but then nothing more on that, which was what brought Kate to New Orleans in the first place, and I especially didn't like how the epilogue was about Rhys to only turn the page and the next book out isn't even about him. What??? Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't the epilogue be about continued story of main characters or leading us to the next story? I liked this book it had great footsteps to follow in so maybe I'm being a little harsh but dammit The With Me In Seattle series is hard to match it is perfect reading...so with this series I will have to see if I continue on, the price is a little high for under 300 pages and with not being 4 or 5 star book, I will play it by ear to see if I follow this series or not....
i am a huge fan of her "With me in Seattle" series. Her main talents are 1. the ability to draw the reader into the story allowing us to become part of the action rather than just observing and 2. writing series about a large, close knit group of family and friends that is palpable in its warmth and love. With this book I didn't get any of the first and little of the second. Kate is hired by the Boudreaux siblings to investigate someone embezzling from the family business. I expected to get a strong, smart investigator and some detective style action while at the same time a love story with a strong beaudreaux alpha male. What I got was very minimal page space actually dedicated to that part of the plot. I got insta love from day 1 when he kissed said investigator practically the minute they met. Very professional-not. I felt zero chemistry between Eli and Kate and so to me the many love scenes were boring and I skimmed. The characters were all two dimensional, the plot scattered, all over the place, and not well developed at all. I got where the author was going introducing all of the secondary characters because like I said she's great at the family and friends plot style but in this case there was so much going on that nothing was developed enough. I skimmed most of the book and it would have been a 1 star for me but at times the KP I love would burst out in little snippets. At the price I seriously doubt if I will continue with this series.
I'm not a prude and I enjoy a good, sexy romance, but I quit reading after only a couple of chapters because I was sick of the f*** word being tossed around all of the time. It makes the book crude and not romantic and not sexy!
