Aggressor A BestSelling Military TechnoThriller edition by Nick Cook Literature Fiction eBooks
"Aggressor" by Nick Cook is a very good story. Even in 2013 it is relevant and current, although it was written in 1991. Many of the same forces operating in the world today are front-and-center in this book. The story centers around a combined Russian-American hostage rescue operation in the mid-East. This all takes place fairly soon after the collapse of the old Soviet Union, and the two former enemies are still working out a sort-of friendly relationship.
The hero of the story is, unlikely enough for a military thriller-story, a British journalist who has his own jihad reasons for pursuing the extremist bad guys. Much of the story takes place in Egypt. The story's setting merely makes you even more want NOT to travel to Egypt. The only time the reader has to suspend disbelief is at the very end of the story when the journalist shows uncanny and improbable skill at driving a helicopter. There is lots of murder, scheming, deceit and betrayal. Death, sadness and evil are commonplace in this story.
The characters are interesting, unique and well-developed and the story moves quickly. It's very well written, and I look forward to the next novel by this writer.
Occasionally, there is the weird, all-too-common Kindle-related format strangeness, something I'm increasingly annoyed at Amazon over. So Amazon gets a 2, Cook a strong 4.
